Description: Noise pollution changes the behaviour of wild animals. How can a songbird attract a mate, or defend a territory, if his song can’t be heard? With increasing changes to the natural world, quiet environments associated with parks and urban green spaces are critically important for wildlife. Through studies of wild birds in urban and wilderness environments, Dr. Dan Mennill and his research team have led field studies of birds in a noisy world.
In this talk, Dan will describe his research on bird reactions to noise, he will highlight the importance of parks and urban green spaces, and he will describe the strategies that birds use to avoid being silenced.
